Researchers: Francesco Tubiello, Ph.D.
Office Address: Dr. Francesco Tubiello is a Research Scientist at the Center for Climate Systems Research. Francesco's research interests focus on the interactions between climate and agriculture, and their implications for food supply, carbon and water. Research questions include: What are key current and future socio-economic trends on land and water, and how will they affect food supply globally and regionally? How and where will climate change, including variability, matter over and above these trends? How to develop robust adaptation strategies? What are the options for carbon sequestration? His published work relates to various interactions of these themes, including recent investigation of the benefits for agriculture of long-term greenhouse gas stabilization scenarios. In addition to his impact work, Francesco has conducted climate simulation studies using several versions of the GISS GCM, by including interactive carbon dynamics. Dr. Francesco Tubiello's research work have been sponsored by NSF, NOAA, NASA, OECD, and UNDP. His current work includes assessments of land for agriculture in China (NOAA) and Ukraine (NASA), as well as the development of new metrics for climate impacts on agriculture (OECD). Dr. Francesco Tubiello was co-author of the US National Assessment Report, and contributes to the North American Carbon Project. He is currently Lead Author of the Agriculture Chapter of the IPCC WGII Fourth Assessment Report. |
