What We Do

Our Dual Advantage

Working at the intersection of NASA's Goddard Institute for Space Studies and Columbia's Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory, we combine space-based Earth observations with ground-based field research. This integration – from satellite data to the ModelE Earth system model to real-world validation – enables solutions spanning global models to local applications.

Three Strategic Research Areas

Earth System Intelligence
Harnessing AI to advance climate modeling from Earth to exoplanets. We develop next-generation models of Earth's vegetation, fires, clouds, and atmospheric chemistry—validated against NASA satellite observations—to reduce uncertainties and reveal system tipping points.

Food Security & Resilience
Protecting the global food supply as climate changes. We map food system vulnerabilities, model crops under future scenarios, and track emissions from farm to table—translating insights into strategies that keep vulnerable populations fed.

Actionable Forecasting
Bridging weather forecasts and seasonal predictions. Our subseasonal-to-seasonal forecasts provide 2-week to 9-month early warnings of extreme events – giving decision-makers time to prepare, save lives, and optimize critical resources.
