Erfan Amini

Postdoctoral Research Scientist

Erfan Amini is a Postdoctoral Research Scientist at the Center for Climate Systems Research (CCSR) at Columbia University. His research advances climate resilience by combining agent-based modeling with building-level flood damage assessment. At CCSR, he is developing decision-support tools that evaluate household-specific damages and retrofit options, integrating socio-economic analysis to capture community-level disparities in risk and adaptation. Before joining Columbia, Erfan earned his Ph.D. in Ocean Engineering from Stevens Institute of Technology. His doctoral research focused on wave and flood modeling, coastal nature-based solutions, and the implications of sea-level rise for coastal communities. His broader research interests span numerical modeling of coastal and compound flooding and the design of hybrid adaptation strategies that link engineering solutions with ecosystem-based approaches.
